The WebMedia Theses and Dissertations Contest (CTD) aims to highlight and disseminate research on topics related to the areas of Multimedia Systems and the Web in stricto sensu graduate programs , rewarding the best Theses and Dissertations defended and approved in Brazil in a period of reference.
At each edition of WebMedia, the best theses and dissertations with a significant and outstanding contribution to the scientific area, as well as relevant impact for society and companies, are selected for publication of a summary article and presentation during the Symposium.
Doctors and masters who have developed their research on topics related to the areas of Multimedia and Web Systems, who have defended their theses or dissertations in Postgraduate Programs, can submit works for this contest. Stricto Sensu of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the period January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
To participate in the competition, candidates must submit a short article describing the thesis or dissertation work and highlighting their main contributions to the state-of-the-art in the areas of Multimedia and Web Systems. As a reference, it is suggested that candidates consider the topics of interest in the current WebMedia Main Track.
The text of the article must contain a maximum of four pages (including figures, references and annexes), be written in Portuguese or English and have the candidate and his/her supervisor(s) as authors. It must also include the abstract according to the thesis or dissertation, the characterization of the problem and motivation of the research, objectives and contributions of the work, results obtained and discussion. The text must be formatted according to the standard adopted by WebMedia and be sent in PDF format.
Candidates must also send, in addition to the abstract article and the thesis or dissertation, a cover sheet containing the title of the work, the date of defense, the link to the repository containing the dissertation or thesis at the University that awarded the degree, as well as information about the impact of the research, which may include publications, patents, software registrations and developed products directly linked to the research competing for the award. If the link to the repository containing the dissertation or thesis does not yet exist, reply that “the link has not yet been made available” and, if possible, add a justification.
Selection will take place in four steps, as described below:
[Etapa 1] All submitted works will undergo an initial evaluation, which will be carried out by a committee of researchers with recognized performance in the area and experience in the supervision of theses and dissertations. In this first stage, the idea is not to evaluate the merits of the works, but their adherence to the themes of WebMedia 2022.
[Etapa 2] The authors of all works selected in Step 1 must send a video presenting the research developed and participate in a Webinar that will be organized by the Special Commission of WebMedia (CE-WebMedia). Presentations will also be evaluated by the evaluation committee.
[Etapa 3] All articles selected in Step 1 will also undergo a committee review process.
[Etapa 4] Based on the evaluations of Stages 2 and 3, the coordination of the event will select the best master’s dissertations and doctoral theses that will have their works selected for the PERSENTIAL presentation at the event. All selected works will be published (the abstract articles) in the Annals of WebMedia.
For award purposes, the evaluation committee will take into account the complete work developed in the thesis or dissertation, including the potential social, scientific and technological impacts for the area.

Note: In the Defense Minutes, it must be stated explicitly that the candidate had his/her work approved and defended in 2021 and must also inform the place, the date of defense, the name of the institution, the name of the advisor and the names of the members of the evaluative bank.
Candidates must submit their work electronically through the JEMS System , choosing the corresponding track (Master or Doctorate).

The main author of the selected works (award candidate) must be registered for the event. Registration must be confirmed by the date of submission of the final version.
