Thesis and Dissertation Contest

The 1st WebMedia Thesis and Dissertation Award Competition 2019 (CTD Webmedia 2019) aims to promote postgraduate research in topics related to the Multimedia and Web Systems areas. In 2019, we are seeking outstanding thesis and dissertations produced by postgraduate students in the field of Multimedia and Web that have been completed in Brazil, in 2017 and 2018.

The evaluation committee will select for publication and presentation the thesis and dissertations with a significant contribution to their scientific areas of the Webmedia, as well as works of significant impact for society and industry.

 

Eligibility

The WebMedia CTD 2019 is open to graduate students (in an MS or PhD program), who have developed their research in Brazilian postgraduate programs with themes related to the Multimedia and Web Systems areas. Also, will be eligible for the 2019 competition only thesis and dissertations that have been defended from January, 1, 2017 to 31, December, 2018.

 

Participants Instructions

To participate in the competition, each candidate should send a short paper derived from the thesis or dissertation highlighting the significance and contribution of the research in the fields of Multimedia and the Web.

The paper should be no more than 4 pages, written in Portuguese or English, and be authored by the candidate and his/her advisor(s). The paper is expected to cover the whole study. It should also include an abstract according to the thesis or dissertation, its main problem, the research motivation, objectives and contributions of the work, results, and discussion. The document must be formatted according CTD formar for papers.

Participants must add a cover letter containing the title of the work, the date of defence, the link to the repository containing the dissertation or thesis at the Brazilian University that awarded the diploma. The author should highlight information about the impact of the research, which may include publications, patents, software registrations and products developed DIRECTLY linked to the investigation, which is applying to the competition.

Submission

Participants should submit their work using the JEMS System and choosing the corresponding track (Masters or PhD).

Each submission should contain three files, all in PDF format:
– the 4-pages paper + the cover letter.
– The copy of the document proving the defence of the masters or doctorate.
– The final text of the study (thesis or dissertation)

Note: The documentary evidence must explicitly indicate that the candidate had his/her work approved. He must also inform the location, the date of the defence, the name of the institution, the advisors’ names, and the members of the jury.

Contest

The contest evaluation will analyse the submitted paper and the complete thesis or dissertation. Submissions will undergo an evaluation process by a committee composed of researchers with recognised experience in the field and experience in the orientation of PhD and dissertations.

The selected papers will be presented by the candidates at the XXV Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and Web Systems (WebMedia 2019), in a special session. All papers selected will be published in the Adjunct Proceedings of the Symposium.

For award purposes, the evaluation committee will take into account the full work developed in the thesis or dissertation, including the social, scientific, and technological impacts for the area.

 

Registration

The main author of the selected work (candidate for the award) must be registered in the event. Registration must be confirmed until the date of submission of the final version.
