Call for papers


The following categories accept contributions written in English:

Full papers (topo↑)

Full papers intend to present results of high quality academic research. Submissions must contain original contributions and include unpublished results, case studies and experiences that bring new evidences about HCI research or applications.

Submissions and publication: submissions must be anonymous and have up to 10 pages in the ACMSIGCHI format.

Submitted papers must be in PDF through JEMS submission management system. Papers can be written in English and Portuguese.

Accepted papers in this category will be published in the conference proceedings (the idea is to publish them also in ACM’s digital library, as done in previous events).

Papers will be presented in a technical session and will be allocated 20 minutes for oral presentation followed by 10-minute discussions.

Short paper (topo↑)

The purpose of the short papers category is to allow researchers to submit work in progress whose preliminary results are already interesting to HCI community. This track will give HCI attendees a way to learn about ongoing research initiatives and will provide presenters with an excellent opportunity to receive invaluable direct feedback from experts.

Submission and publication: submissions must contain an original contribution not published in another forum or subjected to review for other conferences or publications. The workshop is open to all topics and disciplines included in full papers category.

Short papers should have up to 4 pages in ACMSIGCHI format, including no page numbers. Submitted papers must be in PDF through JEMS submission management system. Papers can be written in English and Portuguese.

Accepted papers in this category will be published in the proceedings of the event (the idea is to publish them also in ACM’s digital library, as done in previous events).

Industry Experience Reports (topo↑)

This track aims at providing an opportunity to expose company’s perspectives and to stimulate the dialog between academy and industry. Contributions should be based on real case studies and present the company’s official position. Papers will be reviewed by a committee composed of academy members and practitioners according to its relevance to the conference, quality of arguments of results presented, potential outcomes to the industry and/or academy communities and clearness of the text.

Submission and publication:

The submissions should have up 6 pages in ACMSIGCHI format. The accepted papers in this track will appear in the conference proceedings (the idea is to publish them also in ACM’s digital library, as done in previous events); be presented in technical session, up to 10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion.

Demonstrations (topo↑)

Demonstration category intends to promote an environment of visibility and discussions in which companies, universities and developers can present interactive computational systems of various kinds.

The objective of this category is to give opportunity for exposure for works that are based on the design and implementation of new forms of human-computer interaction and expand the known limits of this phenomenon. Fall into this category: software demonstration, presentation of new solutions in graphic design, digital art installations, presentation of projects for RDI (research, development and innovation) in progress, designing new styles of interaction, diagrams, design solutions among others. This can be best exploited by demonstrations than by articles. A submission for a demonstration may be used to supplement the presentation of a paper submitted to the HCI 2010 in the categories: full paper,  short paper, or even industry experience reports.

Submissions: The text of presentation should have up to two pages and follow the ACM SIGCHI format and should include a description of the purpose of the tool/design/installation/etc., potential users, images of the tool/graphic design and list of publications or references literature about the work. This text should be submitted electronically through the JEMS SBC and in PDF format.

The submission may be accompanied by additional material in the form of photos, slides, videos or other elements that can support an evaluation of the work. The submission of these supplemental materials can be made to the organizers of the category by email.

Presentation: The authors will have a moment of presentation as interactive exhibition, during which at least one of the authors should be present. The instructions and information about resources available at the event will be sent to authors of selected papers.

Best Demo Award: This category will include the election of the best demonstration by a popular jury to be held during the HCI 2010. The best demonstration will receive a certificate of BEST DEMO AWARD.

Posters(topo↑)

The category of posters is divided into two tracks:

  • General, which is intended to promote an environment of visibility and discussions in which companies, universities and developers can present works in the early or intermediate stages, not yet consolidated, but whose authors are interested in receiving constructive contributions of the HCI 2010 participants.
  • Theses and Dissertations, which aims to encourage submission of works that are underway and in time to receive constructive contributions of participants in the HCI 2010. It is expected to create an environment in which masters and doctoral students can present and receive feedback from experienced members of the community in the area. This space within the HCI 2010 also aims to promote public awareness of the ongoing research to the academic and industry communities, increasing the integration and cooperation between these sectors.

Submission: The text of presentation should have up to two pages and follow the ACM SIGCHI format and should include:

  • Problem´s characterization
  • Theoretical framework
  • Methodology and current status of work
  • Related works
  • Expected results

For papers submitted for the track Theses and Dissertations, authors should submit an additional file containing the following information:

  • Title
  • Student Name
  • Name of supervisor
  • Degree (Masters or PhD)
  • Graduate Program
  • The student e-mail contact
  • Year of admission in the program
  • Month / Year scheduled for completion
  • Date of approval of the proposed theses or dissertation (qualification)
  • Summary
  • Keywords

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the JEMS SBC and in PDF format.

Presentation: The authors of the papers will have a moment of presentation in the form of  a collective and interactive exhibition. For the Theses and Dissertations works, in addition to the community at the event, a group of researchers will go through the session to talk with the authors.
